How to Prevent Pillagers from Spawning at Outpost

Stop Pillagers Spawning at Outposts by Destroying Their Banners to Make it Usable. The new pillager outpost is an amazing build and I already have so many ideas on what can be done with them, and I think they could make really cool property in a survival server. However, you can’t really make it your home as it is right now, or even just a safe base of yours, as pillagers constantly spawn there. Some players may want that, for things like pillager farms for example, or just places they can go to constantly kill some pillagers for a XP boost and maybe some other loot.

It would be great if the player could take it away from the pillagers and use it for whatever they want, as the building as so much potential for that, and I think the best way of signifying to the game you don’t want pillagers spawning is taking away all the illager banners at the top of the tower. It’s symbolic of them losing control of the place, and it also makes it a bit of a task for the player, as they have to get to the top of the tower first and avoid all that crossbow fire.

This will make the outposts of much more value to the player, as they will have more versatility. It can also be made more balanced by making the “Bad Omen” effect also cause raids to captured outposts, giving a buff to that status effect and adding a bit more character to the outposts. I think this would make the outposts so much better and would give them more use both early-game and late-game, and would fit in nicely with the “war against the illagers” theme in 1.14.

In Minecraft Java Edition, Pillagers will spawn around an Outpost, in a radius of 74x52x72. Their spawn rules indicate that Pillager-themed mobs are only able to spawn as long as the light level of a block is 8 or lower. However, they’re able to spawn on Grass Blocks and Sand Blocks regardless of the light level.

That leaves us in a tricky situation. Even if you light up a huge area around the Pillager Outpost, Pillagers are still able to spawn, annoyingly. Therefore, the only method of stopping Pillagers from spawning in Minecraft is to replace all nearby Grass Blocks and Sand Blocks. This has to be in a radius of around 74 blocks in each direction. That’s the first step completed. But Pillagers are still able to spawn, as long as the light level is below 8.

This mechanic is what’s seen on other hostile mobs, like Creepers, Zombies and Skeletons. Make sure to then light up the area around the Pillager Outpost, with items like Torches, Lanterns or Glowstone. When all that’s done, Pillagers should no longer spawn at an Outpost. It’s not the quickest method, but it doesn’t require any cheats. For extra security, you can place down blocks that mobs usually can’t spawn on. This includes Glass, Leaves and Slabs.

Note: Pillagers in Minecraft will spawn around Outposts. Generally, they’ll spawn every few hundred chunks, making them quite rare. Due to them being a structure, they have some different spawning rules when it comes to mobs. Unfortunately, even after clearing a Pillager Outpost, Pillagers are able to continuously spawn nearby. Even if the player is inside the Tower. There’s only a few remedies, and none of them are quick and easy.

Stopping Pillagers from spawning isn’t an easy task. If you haven’t yet built a base near an Outpost, but are contemplating it, then I recommend that you don’t. Instead, maybe try building an Outpost of your own, as it’s such a simple design. However, if you definitely need to prevent the spawning of Pillagers.
