Federal Fire Service Offices in Nigeria – According to the Fire Service Act, an Act of Parliament, the Federal Fire Service of Nigeria is in charge of performing rescue operations following fire incidents, fire prevention, fire fighting, and other duties. The National Fire Academy was established by the Federal Fire Service to train new firefighters, among other responsibilities. Other duties of the Federal Fire Service include regulating State and Private fire services and ensuring adherence to established guidelines, as well as coordinating national emergencies. Twelve zone commands in Nigeria house the offices of the Federal Fire Service.
The Federal Fire Service is in charge of rescue, fire mitigation, fire fighting, paramedical services, and information services.
When the country’s fire services were reformed by the federal government in 2007, the mission of the service was changed to Regulation of the State and Private Fire Services. Prescription and oversight of standards for the promotion of fire education, prevention, safety, mitigation, and investigation; effective performance of State Fire Services’ duties; provision of policy direction for the Nation’s Fire Services; standardisation of fire and rescue equipment made in or imported into Nigeria; and encouragement of the State Fire Services’ establishment of an adequate number of fire stations and fire posts;
